Insurance for a horse-farm county
Paris Pike (US-27/68) between Lexington and Paris is lined with thoroughbred farms and dry-stone fences, and Bourbon County is home to some of the best-known horse farms in Kentucky. Most Bourbon County homes aren't horse farms, of course, but a lot of them come with land.
What that means for your coverage
- Acreage and outbuildings. Barns, equipment sheds, workshops and fencing should be listed when you ask for a quote; they aren't always treated like the house.
- Livestock and horses. Keeping animals for personal use is different from boarding or breeding. Farm and equine operations usually need a separate look, and we'll tell you what we can place.
- Older farmhouses and town homes. Paris has many older homes near Main Street and the courthouse. Rebuilding with similar materials can cost more than you'd expect.
- Stoner Creek. Stoner Creek runs through Paris, and low-lying areas along it and Houston Creek have flooded in the past. If your property is near the creek, check the FEMA flood map; flood is generally excluded from standard homeowners policies.
Paris, Millersburg & North Middletown
Paris
The county seat. Commuters drive Paris Pike or US-68 into Lexington, and there's a mix of historic homes, newer subdivisions on the edge of town and small businesses downtown.
Millersburg
A small town in the north of the county along US-68. Older homes and rural property are typical, and the drive to Lexington is longer, so phone and text service often makes more sense.
North Middletown
A small community on the east side of the county surrounded by farmland. Rural homes, farm vehicles and long commutes are the usual topics.
Paris to our Lexington office
Take Paris Pike (US-27/68) south toward Lexington. Get on I-75 South at the interchange with I-64/I-75 (Exit 113), stay on I-75 South where I-64 splits off to the east, and continue to Exit 110 (Winchester Rd / US-60). Turn right toward Lexington; Executive Drive is about half a mile on the right.
Plan on roughly 25 minutes from downtown Paris; longer from Millersburg or North Middletown.
