Auto coverages in Arkansas
Arkansas drivers shop in a liability-first tort environment. Some older summaries mention PIP-style benefits; treat first-party medical options as quote-specific — confirm what your carrier offers today rather than assuming a Florida-style mandatory PIP package.
Liability (BI / PD)
Arkansas requires bodily-injury and property-damage liability (commonly 25/50/25 — verify). That coverage pays others when you cause a crash.
PIP / MedPay
Ask Asshield™ whether your Arkansas quote includes optional PIP, MedPay, or neither. Do not assume no-fault benefits apply the way they do in FL, KY, or PA.
UM / UIM
Uninsured and underinsured motorist coverages are generally available and often optional; matching them to your liability limits is a common best practice.
UMPD
A separate mandatory UMPD product is not the usual Arkansas framing. Rely on collision (and any UM options shown on your form) to repair your own vehicle after an uninsured driver’s crash.
Collision & comprehensive
Collision helps repair your vehicle after a crash with another car or object (minus your deductible). Comprehensive leans toward non-crash events — theft, hail, vandalism, fire, flooding-type weather losses where covered, or hitting an animal. Lenders usually require both on a financed car; on an older paid-off vehicle, you may choose differently.
Gravel-road misjudge near town
Loose gravel and a tight turn leave a crease in the fender. Collision is how body work usually gets paid, minus the deductible.
Ice storm limbs or a stolen trailer hitch
Winter storms and theft claims typically fall under comprehensive when covered.
Deductibles, rental & roadside
A deductible is what you pay first on collision or comprehensive claims — higher deductibles often lower the premium, but only if you could actually write that check. Rental reimbursement can help pay for a loaner while your car is in the shop after a covered claim; many people assume “full coverage” includes it, and it often does not. Roadside assistance covers convenience tows and jump-starts as a separate add-on.
State minimums — the legal floor
Whatever Arkansas requires to drive legally is a floor, not a financial plan. Minimums change over time; confirm current figures with a licensed agent or official state sources before you buy. Read Asshield™’s guide: state minimums aren’t a plan.
