Asshield™ is an independent agency based in Lexington, Kentucky. We help Cincinnati homeowners by phone, text, email and e-signature. We don't have a Cincinnati office. What we do is compare homeowners insurance from more than one company and explain the parts of a Cincinnati policy that surprise people: river and creek flooding, sewer backup in basements, hillside earth movement and older-home updates. Our office is at 2240 Executive Dr Ste 103, Lexington, KY 40505, (859) 368-0162.

An independent agency, not a captive

Asshield is an independent agency licensed in Ohio. Product availability varies by ZIP code and carrier, so we confirm which companies can quote your home before we compare options side by side.

Ohio River and creek flooding

Cincinnati's riverfront and the low ground along the Ohio, Little Miami and Great Miami rivers, and creeks like Mill Creek, have a long flood history. Standard homeowners policies generally exclude flood, whether it's the river rising or a flash flood. Check your address on the FEMA flood map and ask us about a separate flood policy. Flood policies usually have a waiting period, so don't wait for a forecast.

Basements and sewer backup

Many Cincinnati homes have basements, and older parts of the city are on combined sewers that can back up in heavy rain. Water backing up through a floor drain or sewer line is usually excluded unless you add a water backup endorsement, and it isn't the same as flood coverage. If your basement is finished, this is one of the first things we'll check.

Hillsides and earth movement

Cincinnati is a city of hills: Mount Adams, Price Hill, Clifton, Mount Washington and the slopes along Columbia Parkway. Parts of the region are prone to landslides and slow soil movement, and standard homeowners policies generally exclude earth movement, including landslides. If your home sits on a slope, or you see cracking walls or shifting retaining walls, tell us. We'll explain what a policy does and doesn't cover so there are no surprises.

Older homes and historic neighborhoods

From Italianate rowhouses in Over-the-Rhine to early-1900s homes in Hyde Park, Northside and Westwood, older houses bring underwriting questions about roof age, wiring, plumbing and heating. Have the years of your updates ready, and make sure the dwelling limit reflects the real cost to rebuild plaster, brick and trim, not the market price.

Suburbs: Anderson, Blue Ash, Colerain and beyond

Newer suburban homes bring their own questions: closing deadlines, HOA requirements, and wind and hail deductibles after severe Ohio Valley storms. Buying? Send us the address, closing date and your lender's mortgagee clause early.
