Car insurance in Georgetown, KY

Car insurance for Scott County drivers, Toyota commuters, and Georgetown College students, from our Lexington office just down I-75.

Asshield™ is an independent insurance agency, which means we compare car insurance from several companies instead of selling one. Our office is in Lexington, not Georgetown: 2240 Executive Dr Ste 103, Lexington, KY 40505, (859) 368-0162, open Monday–Friday 9–7 and Saturday 9–5. We serve Georgetown and the rest of Scott County from there, and most clients never need to come in.

Car insurance companies we compare for Georgetown drivers

For Georgetown and Scott County, we compare carriers such as Liberty Mutual, Grange, Progressive, GEICO, and Travelers. Which of them can actually quote you depends on your driving record, your vehicles, where they're parked, and each carrier's current underwriting. If you've had tickets, an accident, or a lapse, we also look at carriers that focus on those situations. See every company we work with on our carriers page.

Toyota commuters and shift workers

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky (TMMK) is one of the biggest reasons people move to Georgetown, and plant and warehouse jobs along the I-75 corridor mean a lot of shift work. A few things matter more for these drivers:

  • Annual mileage. A daily commute adds up. Carriers price on miles driven, so give us an honest number.
  • Rotating shifts and night driving. Your schedule doesn't usually change the price directly, but more miles and more drivers in the household do.
  • Where the car sits. Carriers ask where the car is parked overnight. If a car stays at a plant lot or a second address, tell us.
  • Carpools. Driving coworkers to work is usually fine on a personal policy. Being paid to drive people or deliver goods is a different question, so mention any side gig.

The drive between Georgetown and Lexington

Our office is just off Winchester Rd (US-60) at I-75 Exit 110, on the Georgetown side of Lexington. Based on OpenStreetMap routing:

  • From downtown Georgetown or Georgetown College (about 17 miles): take Main St / US-460 east to I-75, go south on I-75, and take Exit 110. Turn right on Winchester Rd, then right again on Executive Drive, less than half a mile from the exit.
  • From the Toyota plant (about 20 miles): take Lexus Way to I-75 south and follow it to Exit 110.
  • US-25 (Georgetown Rd) alternative (about 17 miles): US-25 runs south into Lexington as Georgetown Rd. From there, Citation Blvd and Newtown Pike lead back to I-75/I-64 and Exit 110. It's an option when the interstate is backed up.

Drive time depends on traffic. And you don't have to make the drive at all: call or text (859) 368-0162 to quote, review a policy, or sign documents.

Georgetown College students

Students at Georgetown College often keep a car on a parent's policy. Whether that's the best setup depends on where the car is kept during the semester, whose name is on the title, and each carrier's rules for students away at school. Good-student discounts also vary by company. Students renting off campus should look at renters insurance for their belongings, since a landlord's policy won't cover them. Our young and teen driver guide covers the basics.

Rural Scott County roads

Outside town, around Stamping Ground, Sadieville, and the north end of the county, many miles are on two-lane roads with farm equipment, narrow shoulders, and deer. Hitting a deer is usually a comprehensive claim, not collision, so it's worth knowing your comprehensive deductible before fall. Farm trucks and vehicles used for a farm business may need a different type of policy than a personal car, so tell us how each vehicle is used.

Kentucky car insurance rules in plain English

Kentucky is a choice no-fault state. Most policies include personal injury protection (PIP), also called basic reparation benefits, and drivers can reject the no-fault limits on their right to sue in writing. The state minimum liability is a legal floor, not a plan; see state minimums aren't a plan and our Kentucky car insurance page.

Kentucky doesn't use the SR-22 form. It verifies insurance electronically, and a registration can be revoked if coverage drops out of the state's system. If you moved to Scott County with an Ohio or Indiana SR-22 still in force, that state's requirement continues. See SR-22 in Kentucky for what Kentucky requires and how we help.

Ways Georgetown drivers can lower their premium

  • Compare several carriers for the same coverage.
  • Choose collision and comprehensive deductibles you could actually pay.
  • Bundle with home or renters insurance when the package comes out ahead.
  • Ask about telematics programs if you drive gently.
  • Keep coverage continuous; a lapse can move you into higher-priced markets.
  • List every household driver correctly.

Questions we hear

Do you have an office in Georgetown?

No. Our Kentucky office is in Lexington at 2240 Executive Dr Ste 103, Lexington, KY 40505. We serve Georgetown and Scott County drivers from there, by phone, text, online, or in person.

Which car insurance companies do you compare for Georgetown drivers?

We compare carriers such as Liberty Mutual, Grange, Progressive, GEICO, and Travelers. Which ones can quote you depends on your driving record, vehicles, and each carrier's underwriting.

I work at Toyota in Georgetown. Does my shift or commute matter?

It can. Carriers ask about annual mileage and where the car is parked overnight, and a long daily commute adds miles. Give us an honest estimate so the policy matches how you actually drive.

Should a Georgetown College student stay on a parent's policy?

Often, but it depends on where the car is kept during the semester and on each carrier's rules. Tell us the school address and the home address, and we'll check.

Do I need an SR-22 in Kentucky after a lapse?

Kentucky doesn't use the SR-22 form. It verifies insurance electronically, and a registration can be revoked if coverage drops out of the system. If Ohio, Indiana, or another state still requires an SR-22 from you, we can look for a carrier that files there.

Is hitting a deer on a Scott County road covered?

A deer strike is usually a comprehensive claim, not collision, so it's covered only if you carry comprehensive. Check your comprehensive deductible before fall.
