Retailers carry two big exposures: the inventory on the shelves and the customers walking the aisles. Add card payments, online sales, and employees, and a well-built BOP plus a few targeted add-ons usually covers what matters.
We help shop owners choose the right limits for peak season, protect against slip-and-fall claims, and understand what products they sell may create liability.
A boutique stocks up for the summer season when a roof leak during a storm soaks a back room of new inventory. Property coverage with a seasonal increase replaces the stock at cost, and business income covers the days the store was closed for cleanup.
Where we see it locally
Tourist-season inventory peaks on the Gulf Coast and holiday peaks everywhere make inventory limits and business income important. Many shopping-center leases also require specific limits and additional insured wording.

Retail & Boutiques insurance questions
Do retailers need product liability insurance?
Product liability is usually included within general liability. If you import, private-label, or sell higher-risk products, tell us so it is rated correctly.
What if my inventory is higher during the holidays or tourist season?
Ask about a peak season or seasonal increase endorsement, which temporarily raises inventory limits.
Is shoplifting covered?
Theft by customers is often excluded or limited on property forms; employee theft generally needs crime coverage. We can review options.
Do I need cyber insurance if I use Square or another processor?
Processors reduce but do not eliminate your exposure — breaches of email, customer lists, or online stores can still occur. A cyber policy or endorsement is worth considering.
Does a BOP cover my online store?
A BOP can cover products and premises liability, but online-specific risks like data breaches need cyber coverage.
